When we had our retirement home built in Arizona, in SaddleBrooke, our choices of interior wall colors were white and off-white. After living with off-white for 2+ years, we decided to have our house painted in colors that would reflect our love of color, the southwest, and Mexican decor. As a Spanish teacher, Carolyn had collected many Mexican, Central American, and South American things over the years. I refer to our decorating motif as "Tijuana Brothel".

From early January, 2001, to early February, 2001, our painter friend from California, Dwight Kearney, lived with us and painted every wall and ceiling in the interior of our house ... with the exception of our two closets; we were too lazy to move all the junk out of our closets so that Dwight could paint them.

When we lived in Lafayette, California, Dwight had painted the exterior and interior of our house. He is a perfectionist and a true craftsman, so when he told us that he would paint our house in three weeks, we knew from past experience that Dwight would be with us longer than the three weeks that he estimated. It turned out to be five weeks. Dwight's stay with us was about as close to a vacation as Dwight ever takes.
