Tour of
Spain
2017
On September 25, 2017, Carolyn
and I flew from Phoenix to Barcelona, Spain, where we began a 14-day bus
tour of Spain.
We had a great tour, made even
better by our tour manager Luigi, a funny, goofy, Italian guy who did
everything he could to make the tour a lot of fun. Luigi is fluent in many languages,
and sometimes when he was talking to us, he would get confused and use
Spanish or Italian words.
This was probably our last
organized tour because it was just too exhausting for us. Nine years ago we did a similar tour
of Spain and had no fatigue issues, but that was nine years ago when we
were spring chickens at the age of 65.
Most of our future trips will be cruises and driving trips, where we
can decide how much or how little we want to do.
We had a great tour of Spain for
14 days, but this was a typical day:
- Get
up at 6:30 AM, and, if it was a hotel departure day, have our
suitcases outside the door by 7:00 AM.
- Go
to the buffet breakfast at 7:00 AM.
- Be
on the bus by 8:30 AM.
- Drive
to various cities, towns, and villages.
- Replicate
the Bataan Death March by spending many hours, in high temperatures,
dragging ourselves up and down hills, on cobblestone streets, keeping
ourselves going by remembering that eventually we would stop for
gelato.
- Return
to the hotel around 6:00 PM, where we would collapse on the bed for awhile and then shower and go to dinner around
8:00 PM.
- Return
to the hotel around 9:30 or 10:00 PM.
- Collapse
on the bed again, too exhausted to do anything except use my tablet
computer to peruse the news and find out what outrageous activity
Trump had engaged in that day.
- Watching
TV was out of the question because, for some inexplicable reason, 99%
of the channels were broadcast in Spanish. Go figure!
